Our Story

During 1951, a group of seven Civil Service employees of the former War Department, recently re-named as the United States Department of Defense met to discuss creating our credit union. On January 1, 1952, these individuals saw Bragg Civilian Federal Credit Union chartered to serve the civilian employees working at Fort Bragg NC. There were 200 original members present the day our credit union was chartered. Our first office opened on post at Ft. Bragg later that year.

During 1979, the Board of Directors voted to change our name to Bragg Mutual Federal Credit Union, which allowed us to serve new members around the Cumberland County areas, including various local governments, and other area businesses. Today, our credit union includes more than 100 different select employee groups from Southeastern North Carolina, including anyone living, working, attending church or school, or doing business within Cumberland and Harnett Counties.

During 1981 we acquired the old Kelly Fay FCU, which was the credit union for the Goodyear employees. That year we also added area city and county employees. We added the Cumberland County Hospital System in 1982, and today the employees of Cape Fear Valley Health, are the largest employee group of the credit union.

Since then, we have continued to grow, acquiring the Duplin County Teachers FCU and College Heights FCU. This year we are approaching almost 70 years of service to our members. We are proud to be the fourth oldest Federal Credit Union in North Carolina. Today, some of our largest employee groups are the employees of Cape Fear Valley Health, Goodyear Tire, Military Veterans, and various municipal, state, and Federal government employees and contractors.  Our commitment to our members is to grow and remain an independent federal credit union serving the people of Southeastern North Carolina.
